
South San Francisco in the 20th century, known as the Industrial City has moved into the 21st century known as the birth place of Bio Technology. South San Francisco is a broad valley formed by the San Bruno Mountains on the north and the Coast Range on the west. Most of the valley faces adjacent San Francisco Bay, affording sweeping vistas, from higher levels and a definite sense of identification with the Bay. South San Francisco has mild winters and dry cool summers. The hills to the west shield the city from much of the fog that prevails in neighboring areas, offering its citizens a city in which to live comfortably in fine residential areas; a place of recreation in parks, swimming pools, and Scenic Marina for sailing, wind boarding and fishing. South San Francisco referred to by the locals as “South City” in much the same way that San Francisco is called "The City, is also known as the “Transit Village” with SFO to the South, BART to the West and Caltrain between two major interstates 101 and 280. Easy access and great wether have brought many local and international companies with abundant career opportunities; a place to work in more than 3,200 firms and businesses.
