The Downtown area - located along the banks of the Mississippi - is the oldest part of Memphis, but has been remarkably revitalized to become one of the most popular cities in the Southeast. Historic Beale Street is the city's main entertainment district, although there’s an extremely diverse collection of restaurants, night clubs and cultural attractions throughout the area. Great food, live music, boutique shops, arts…Downtown Memphis has it all, just waiting for our Memphis corporate apartment renters! Downtown Memphis actually covers a 6.5-square-mile area and is made up of several unique communities. The South Main Arts District makes up the southern portion of Downtown Memphis. Two great points of interest in Memphis reside in this area. One is the National Civil Rights Museum. The other is the historic restaurant The Arcade--one of the oldest family owned restaurants in Memphis. On the last Friday of each summer month, an event called "Trolley Night" is put on by the owners of the South Main businesses and Art Galleries. This includes free trolley service up and down main street, open art Galleries, and longer hours for most businesses. Downtown Memphis is also home to Lorraine Motel (now the National Civil Rights Museum) where Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968, the FedExForum, the Pyramid, the Peabody Hotel, and AutoZone Park. It is home to the Memphis Redbirds, the AAA affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Memphis Grizzlies NBA team. Most Memphis corporate apartment renters commute by automobile, although you can hop in a cab…on the bus or trolley – and be anywhere in minutes. Downtown Memphis is home to many great private and public K-12 schools, part of the Memphis City Schools and Shelby County Districts, as well as Southern College of Optometry, UT School of Medicine, University of Memphis and Christian Brothers University. And there is a wonderful park in Downtown Memphis called Mud Island River Park. Visitors can walk or run along this 4 mile path and enjoy spectacular views of the river and the Downtown Memphis area!
